A French manicure is probably one of the most beloved and popular types of nail design, mostly due to its versatility. A French manicure is suitable for any outfit and is appropriate for any event. Few people know that, in fact, the French manicure is not native to France. This type of manicure first appeared in the US in Hollywood as a universal manicure which would fit all actresses’ outfits.

A French manicure can easily be done at home. There are several ways to do so.

The First Method

To perform the classic French manicure you will need clear nail polish, white nail polish and special stencil strips. Before proceeding with the French manicure prepare your nails for the procedure.

1. Cover the nails with 2 layers of clear nail polish. Wait until the base coat dries completely.

2. Separate one stencil strip, and attach it slightly lower than the tip of the nail. Press down on the strip on all sides to leave no gaps.

3. Cover the tip with white nail polish. Once it is completely dry, remove the stencil in one neat movement. Do not rush and remove the strip when the paint is still wet, as you can spoil the whole manicure.

4. Cover the nails with one more coat of clear nail polish.

This is the best method, because even a novice can execute it well. Doing a French manicure using stencils always turns out neat.

The Second Method

1. Cover the prepared nails with clear nail polish. Allow the first coat to dry thoroughly.

2. Paint a wide strip of white polish on the tip of the nail using a regular brush. The strip must be drawn as follows: start with the right side and then the left, connecting them in the middle.

3. Wait until the white nail polish dries.

4. Cover the nails with clear nail polish.

This method is suitable for those who have practiced a lot and can create thin and smooth lines. If you are not confident in your abilities, use the first method.

The Third Method

This method of performing a French manicure is similar to the second method, however the only difference is that the white polish is applied using a fine brush.

3. Fill in the resulting area with white nail polish.

4. After the white polish has dried, apply clear nail polish to the nails.

This method is a little easier than the second, but without enough experience you are unlikely to get a smooth, curved line.

The Fourth Method

In this method, the implementation of the French manicure uses stencil adhesive tape.

1. Cover the nails with clear polish and wait for it to dry completely.

2. Stick the tape on to form a semi-circular shape.

3. Fill in the resulting area with white nail polish.

4. Once it is dry, remove the nail adhesive tape and cover the nails with another layer of clear nail polish.

This method is more suitable for beginners, and it will be complemented by other elements and types of nail design.

An essential advantage of this type of manicure is its ability to combine with other types of manicures and nail design. Clear nail polish, which serves as the base of the French manicure, can be replaced with a milky or light pink.
